IN a bid to give back to the society, Super Eagles and Chelsea
midfielder, Mikel Obi is set to launch his pet project, 'The Mikel Obi Foundation
which comes up this Friday at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Still basking from his
victorious outing in the Champions League with Chelsea, Mikel said the launch
of the Foundation tomorrow will hold simultaneously with a welcome party tagged
'Welcome the Champion' organised in his honour by members of the Lagos Business
Community led by Prince Donatus Okonkwo.
According to Mikel, the
foundation whose mission is to bring succour to the homeless and displaced
people across the nation especially the 'alamajiris' would flag off in Jos, Plateau
state capital.
"It was a dream for
me when I was growing up. I know the way it feels, many are homeless and have
no food to eat and it has always been in my mind to do something in this
direction. I intend to make this a lifetime thing if it achieves the purpose. I
have been in talks with other 'NGOS" and have approached a number of corporate
organisations and they all have given their support to this project",
Mikel said.
The executive governor
of Lagos state, Babatunde Raji Fashola is expected to grace the occasion as a
special guest of hounour.
