OPEN HEAVENS: A LESSON FROM GOLIATH | TUESDAY, 21ST JANUARY, 2014
Tuesday, January 21, 2014Omoba
MEMORISE
Yet a little sleep, a
little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty
come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. Proverbs 6:10-11
READ 1 Samuel 17:41-43
41 And the Philistine
came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before
him. 42 And when the
Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a
youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. 43 And the Philistine
said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the
Philistine cursed David by his gods.
MESSAGE
At the first sight of
David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could
find no man to fight him but a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath
did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, “Am I a dog?”
The first lesson we have to learn from this story as Christians is that we must
never underestimate our enemies. A small snake can be full of potent poison. In
Joshua 7:2-6, the Bible tells us that after the fall of Jericho, Joshua
relaxed, thinking that since they were victorious over Jericho, a small town
like Ai would pose no problems.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL: ATTRIBUTES OF GOAL GETTERS | MONDAY, 20TH JANUARY, 2014
Monday, January 20, 2014Omoba
MEMORISE: Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall
stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. Proverbs 22:29
READ 1 Samuel 17:20-33
MESSAGE
The children of Israel were intimidated for forty
days by Goliath. David came to the scene and made enquiries about what would be
done to whosoever defeated the giant. The reply he got fascinated him and
straightaway, he set for himself the goal of defeating the giant. To David,
nothing could stop him from being the king’s son-in-law. When Eliab, David’s
brother heard about his intention, he rebuked him.

OPEN HEAVENS: “THE CHOSEN OF THE LORD” | THURSDAY16th JANUARY 2014
Thursday, January 16, 2014Omoba
Memory Verse: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a
peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called
you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” 1 Peter 2:9:
Read: 1 Samuel 16:12-
13.
1 Samuel 16:12-13:“And
he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful
countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for
this is he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of
his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward.
So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.”
Message:
When they brought in
David from watching over his father’s sheep in the wilderness, the first thing
that God said to the man of God about him was that he was the chosen one. What
kind of person will God choose? 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 offers the answer to this
question. God will choose the foolish. God will choose the weak. God will
choose the people regarded as nothing. Why will God choose the foolish? It is
because He will fill the foolish with His wisdom.

OPEN HEAVENS: “THE DAY OF GOD’S MERCY” | WEDNESDAY 15TH JANUARY 2014
Wednesday, January 15, 2014OmobaMemory Verse: “For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” Romans 9:15
Read:
1 Samuel 16:11-12.
1
Samuel 16:11-12:“And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here
all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold,
he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we
will not sit down till he come hither. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he
was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And
the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.”
Message:
The day that David was
preferred above his brothers could be described as a day of God’s mercy. While
he was in the wilderness looking after his father’s flock, he never dreamt that
he could become a king. There was no king in his family, and in any case, king
Saul was still alive. David was not the son of king Saul, so it could not have
crossed his mind that he could ever be king. He never prayed for it.

Ephesians 6:10-13 Finally, my
brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour
of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not
against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against
the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places. Wherefore take unto
you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand.

I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Thy servant slew both
the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of

The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of
the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said

Tuesday, January 07, 2014Omoba
Memory Verse: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things
not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.” Hebrews 11:1
Read: Matthew 9:20-22.
Message:
Having expectations
depends on many variables, particularly if we are talking about having
expectations of God. If God has made you a promise, then, you have the right to
expect that the promise will be fulfilled. In Genesis 8:22, the Almighty God
made a promise. It is based on this promise that the expectation of a farmer
rests. He said as long as the earth remains, seed time and harvest shall never
cease. This promise of God is the basis on which a farmer planting a seed
expects that there will be a harvest. Another variable which expectations
depend upon is the integrity of the one giving the promise.

OPEN HEAVENS : EXCEEDING GREATNESS BY SACRFICE, FRIDAY 19TH JULY, 2013
Friday, July 19, 2013Omoba
Memorise: Gather my
saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
Psalms 50:5
Read: Genesis 22:7-14
Message
Our God is a covenant
keeper. This is why He hates the acts of truce breakers with a passion. If you
want your future to be exceedingly great, make sure you are connected through a
covenant to God. God is taking us to the level of exceeding greatness. Don’t let
anybody deceive by telling you that you have reached a height nobody has
achieved for God. Simply tell them that whatever they consider as your height
is truly the beginning of your achievement for God. Tell them they have not
seen anything yet. However, how do you get to your next level – the level of
exceeding greatness?Sacrifice is required.

If there was one Bible character who was sure of
his divine calling and followed it to the end, it was Moses. He gave no room

power at the palace. Pharaoh reminded Moses of his childhood days when they
both grew up as princes in the same palace, and based on his antecedents
offered Moses a big reward or position in Egypt in place of his God-given

The one who has not fully made up his mind about his relationship with God,
might be tempted to compromise the Gospel message or the specific errand he or
she is asked to deliver to the affluent in society when given the opportunity
to stand before them. When compromise sets i n, the glory departs. Compromise
is a great deflector of God's glory. When you stand before kings to tell them
the truth, even when they do not like to hear the truth, God increases His
glory upon your life.

It is love that can make a man to wait for 14 years just to get married to the
lady of his choice like Jacob did for Rachel (Genesis 29:18-28). A lady once
told me that nobody was asking for her hand in marriage. We prayed and few
months later, she had six suitors on line. Then she came to me to ask how she
will know the one that is her husband. I asked her to tell them that they
should wait for 14 years, by that time she would be through with her Ph.D.
programme and would have worked for some years.
