The duo of MTV VJ,
Ehiz and actress, Sharon Ezeamaka will host three exciting editions of ‘On
Tour With Shuga’ festivals in Lagos, Abuja and Calabar on May
2, May 9 and May 16 respectively.
The tour, a new
outreach campaign for MTV Shuga to further motivate young people on
the need to know their status, is sponsored by MTV Base, MTV Staying Alive
Foundation and Elton John Aids Foundation in partnership
with NACA, PEPFAR, The Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation and UNICEF.
According
to Georgia Arnold, Executive Director of the MTV Staying Alive
Foundation, each tour will bring the goals of MTV
Shuga to life in the real world and allow participants a chance to meet
with the cast, audition to be the official MTV Shuga red carpet host
at the premiere of season 4 and also take free HIV testing and counseling
sessions.
Meanwhile, the
shooting of the 4th season of the TV series will begin in a few days. It stars
Mr Nigeria, Emmanuel Ikubese, Chris Attoh, Timini Egbuson, Olumide Oworu and a
host of others. Like previous seasons, it will focus on a range of
themes relevant to young people, including adolescent girls, stigma,
prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, HIV testing,
counselling and the use of helplines, gender based violence, first sex, and
disclosure of HIV status.
MTV Shuga made its
debut in 2009 and has since continued to educate the public fusing sexual
and other public health messaging with world-class storytelling and
relatable characters. The third season 3 aired to more than 550 million
households in Africa, Europe, UK, The Americas, Asia, Australia and Oceania,
and The Caribbean via a total of 97 TV broadcasters including 63 African
broadcasters.
