MTV BASE LAUNCHES SHUGA RADIO DRAMA SERIES!

MTV Base and the MTV Staying Alive
Foundation have joined forces to give hit series Shuga a new
life as radio drama ShugaRadioNaija, with new characters and plotlines
complementary to the TV hit.
Set in the fictional rural location of “Chikota”,
Nigeria, ShugaRadioNaija uses Shuga’s “edutainment”
philosophy to tell the interlinked stories of a group of young students, their
friends and families, as they try to figure out life, love, sex and emotions
against a background of conflicting advice and prejudice.
Over eight 12-minute episodes, ShugaRadioNaija will
address a wide range of thought-provoking topics echoing those in the TV drama
including HIV counselling and testing, discussing condom use in relationships,
gender inequality, abuse, transactional sex, and the role of multiple
concurrent partnerships in driving the HIV epidemic.
Wazobia FM OAP Lolo (@Officiallolo1)
plays straight-laced biology teacher Mrs Balogun, while Lilian Byoma (@LeeleeByoma)
plays the role of Roli, an outspoken pupil and a bit of a know-it-all when
it comes to sex. Theresa Edem(@TheresaEdem) plays the role of student Patricia who
joins a safe sex club to the disappointment of her admirer, Soji (played
by Frankincense Eche-Ben). Ekong Edet (@iam_GATES) plays
the part of Chuks, a sexually confident student, whileBayRay (@bayraymcnwizu)
plays school nurse, Nurse Ekaette.
ShugaRadioNaija will air weekly on Unilag
FM from Saturday 14 June at 20:00WAT and on City105.1FM from 17
June at 19:45 WAT. The show will also be available online
at www.Shuga.TV.
