Angelina Jolie is on a mission to end rape in the
war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. The 37-year-old actress and humanitarian
is a special envoy for the United Nations. She joined British Foreign Secretary
William Hague at the Nzulo camp north of Goma on Monday.
The pair are part of a campaign to stop sexual
assault in conflict zones where it is frequently used as a “weapon of war” by
rebels and Congolese soldiers, according to the politician.
Angelina said she hoped their visit would raise
awareness about the crimes.
"What we're here to do is try to scale it up
and make this a world wide focus, it's been going on in every war, every crisis
and it's often an afterthought and it's due time to end this and put an end to
impunity and they deserve it," she told UK newspaper The Telegraph.
