The
usual calm campus of the University of Ibadan that is characterized by
different academic and social activities became hot and bloody in the early
hour of Monday as the student body and the entire students of the university
stormed the campus in protest against the school authority for what it has
considered an epileptic power supply that is capable of destroying the
performance of the students.
The protest that was led by the newly inaugurated’ Union
Executive body started around 7am leading to the closure of the campus main
gate and lecture halls. The protesters as at the time of this report had taken over the
Sango-Ojoo road opposite the university main gate.
Movement of people and vehicles through the University’s road
have been frustrated by the protest as motorists and other road users had to
take alternative routes along Agbowo and Bodija road to offices and markets.
At the moment, anti-riot policemen and soldiers are currently on
ground outside the university main gate and on the Sango-Ojoo road to prevent
further break down of law and order.
