Nigerian Actors Plan Mass Protest Over Baba Suwe’s Continuous Detention For Cocaine Trafficking
Tuesday, October 18, 2011Omoba
According
to Society Now Magazine, Nigerian
actors are now making plans to hold a mass protest over
the ongoing detention
of Yoruba Actor,
Babatunde Omidina
popularly known as Baba
suwe.
Baba
Suwe was detained on accusations of drug
smuggling by operatives of the NDLEA on Wed, 12th of Oct, 2011.
He
was supposedly enroute france at night when the Anti- drug agency’s scanner
validated that he was smuggling drugs. Due to his past history of cocaine
trafficking, he was immediately arrested and placed in detention.
Since
he’s yet to excrete any sort of drugs based on details released by NDLEA, this
really is proof that he had provided exctreta for the agency to ‘finger’ 3
times.
Based
on the media reports released by NDLEA spokeswoman, Mitchelle Ofoyeju , they’re
holding the comedian in continuous detention on claims that ‘there is
reasonable ground for suspicion’ and that it is perfectly normal for the agency
to detain suspects for extented time frame. The agency additionally stated that
it at times take 7 days or more before some detainees excrete the suspected
cocaine.
Presently, it’s unclear what portion of the constitution empowers NDLEA to ‘determine the duration of a suspect’s detention contrary to the provision in it’
On
Sunday, October 16 2011, the ANTP leadership distributed a message among its
members we quote:
‘This is the 4th day of Baba Suwe in NDLEA custody
without anything found on him. NOW is time for us to talk. They owe us
explanations as we have to act now. Be prepared for a massive rally. Expect
further information
on this soon, pass this message to others 4RM Prince Jide Kosoko’
