MICHELLE OBAMA MEETS WITH AFRICAN YOUTH ON “MTV BASE MEETS”

First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama (@Flotus) will underline her commitment to and support for youth on the African continent by participating in the ground breaking African TV series and multimedia campaign, MTV Base Meets.
The First Lady will be joined at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre by
teenagers from across South Africa, as well as students in cities around
the US joining virtually in cities around the U.S. via Google+ Hangouts
in: Los Angeles, California; Kansas City, Missouri; New York City, New York;
and Houston, Texas. This event will be streamed live on WhiteHouse.gov, the
White House Google+ page and www.mtvbase.com.
MTV Base Meets
Michelle Obama will premiere to 52 countries across sub-Saharan African on MTV
Base (DStv Channel 322) on Friday 19 July @ 17.00 (repeats Saturday 20
July @ 13.30 CAT, Sunday 21 July @ 10.00 CAT, Monday 22 July @ 20.30 CAT &
Friday 26 July @ 20.00 CAT).
Multiple Grammy award
winner, John Legend is amongst the celebrity participants who will feature
in the programme.
In addition to the
live Hangout, MTV Base Meets Michelle Obama will include the First
Lady’s meeting with a panel of four African youth, in which she will candidly
address their questions and exchange views on education.
MTV Base will
engage its social media communities in Africa in the project by canvassing
questions and discussion topics for Mrs Obama, as well as embedding the
Google+ Hangout on the MTV Base website and Facebook pages.

channel for sub-Saharan Africa, the long-running MTV Base Meets franchise
is a multimedia youth empowerment campaign which connects aspiring African
youth with key influencers or opinion formers from the worlds of politics,
business, sports, music and fashion. Previous high profile influencers to
appear on the series include former President Mandela, President Paul
Kagame of Rwanda, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia,
music icon Hugh Masekela, actor Idris Elba, and businessman and
entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson.
