Luxury car firm Bentley has announced an $800
investment to develop a new model and create 1,000 jobs. The company is making its first sport utility
vehicle - SUV - which will be built at the firms site in Crewe. The car is
expected to be ready to go on sale by 2016 and will be Bentleys fourth vehicle
model.
Prime Minister David Cameron, who visited the
factory today, said: This $800 million investment and 1,000 new jobs from
Bentley is fantastic news for both Crewe and for the UK as a whole.
It is another important milestone in strengthening
our economy. It was powered by the company’s 600bhp W12 engine
and was touted as the fastest SUV in the world.
The SUV market is a lucrative sector and sell well,
especially in the UK and China. Bentley is hoping to sell 3,500 of the new
model per year.
