Nigerian Twitter Handle ‘Gidi Traffic’ Grabs Social Media Award Nomination In New York

Countless
motorists in Lagos and it's environs who are never far away from social
networking site Twitter will be thrilled to learn that their favourite traffic
guide; Gidi traffic has been nominated for The SHORTY awards in
New York.

Traffic
is a Twitter handle that began operation in September last year, using Social
Media and technology to save Lagosians mostly gas money, stress, commuting time
and making the roads less congested by helping people vary their routes,
ultimately giving Lagosians safer trips through less traffic.

also helps with information on filling stations selling the least expensive gas
to the nearest hospital for accident victims and areas of unrest to avoid.
The
traffic twitter handle was nominated in the "LIFE SAVING HERO"
category amongst 399 other people mainly from the USA and a few others from
around the world. This very competitive category includes the likes of the New
York Fire Department, Actress Sophia Bush and US Congresswoman Gabrielle
Giffords.

Traffic won the highest number of nomination votes in this category from Africa
and has been invited for a chance at grabbing the award on March 26 at the Time
Center in New York.
