The
members of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, (ANTP), on
Wednesday, held a peaceful protest against the scourge of piracy. The protest
kicked off from the premises of Lagos Arts and Culture Centre, Ikeja before
heading to the Lagos State House of Assembly, Alausa, Ikeja.
The
protesters, including Jide Kosoko, Funke Akindele, Antar Laniyan, and other
popular yoruba actors, were calling for the complete shut down of the
Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos, which they described as the breeding
ground of piracy in the entertainment industry.
The
members of the film industry barricaded the gate, preventing some top
government officials who had attended the birthday celebration of Bola Tinubu
at the state house from leaving. They were agitating for the Lagos State
Governor to address them on the issue of piracy. However, they were not allowed
access into the premises.
Security
personnel attached to Fashola and Tinubu allegedly fired shots and tear gas in
the air to disperse the protesting actors, while Governor Babatunde Fashola
sent the commissioner for Information and Strategy to address them but they
insisted on seeing only the governor.
The
Ekiti State Governor, Segun Oni and Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola were
forced to address the protesters when they were about leaving.
